Dorothy Miller, 88, of Louisville, KY passed away in her home on August 28, 2022.
She was born December 7, 1933, in Indianapolis, IN, and was the daughter of Ethel Berry and Huston Bradshaw Mattingly. Dorothy was happiest surrounded by her four boys, who were the loves of her life. You could always find Dorothy sitting in the bleachers of either baseball or football games; coaching, cheering, or telling her sons to "pick it up." Anyone who met Dorothy knew she would speak her mind. She was an avid reader, knitter and known for her "dishrags" and sweaters. She had a great affection for all animals, especially dogs and became a regular dog sitter in retirement. Dorothy graduated High School in 1952 from Saint Catharines in Springfield, Kentucky. She began working after high school as a bank teller. Later she earned her nursing license and worked at Central State Hospital in Louisville, KY until retirement.
She is survived by her four sons, William (Noel), Timothy, Chris (Ann), Matthew (Jana); grandchildren Daniel (Renee), Michael (Emily), Lindsay, Ryan, Kristine, Andrew (Kristi), Benjamin, Chase, and Parker; great grandchildren, Riley, Benjamin, Gavin, Reagan, Abby, Rowan, Mason and Finn. Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, husband Ollie Franklin Miller, sisters Mary Elizabeth Johnson, Louise Belleau and several nieces.
Family graveside service in Springfield, KY, followed by a Celebration of Life at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive) on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 5-7 pm. A brief Nightingale Service honoring her career as a nurse will take place at 5:30 pm that evening at the funeral home.
