Dorothy M. (Brown) Shafer, 71, of Clarksville, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. She was one of the first female machinists in the United States and also worked as a professional chef. Dot enjoyed doing puzzles, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and was an avid animal lover.
Dot was born on November 21, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Raymond and Mabel (Saltsgaver) Brown. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Howard Brown, Naomi Bullerdick; and 2 great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert J. Shafer; children, Anna Koehler (Charlie), June Shafer, Marinda Stark (Cory), Bobby Shafer (Becky), Kristy Deskins (James); siblings, Frieda Jones (Larry), Ralph Brown (Linda), Paul Brown (Anna), Carolyn Sears (Tom); 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 PM on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN) and on Saturday after 11 AM. Her Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM in the chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
