Dorothy Rose (Schmidt) Gettelfinger

Dorothy Rose (Schmidt) Gettelfinger, 91, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her home with family by her side on Monday morning, May 23, 2022. Dorothy was born on November 3, 1930, in Floyd County to the late John and Bertha (Kiesler) Schmidt. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Belinda Bartley; daughter-in-law, Becky (Friedman) Gettelfinger; siblings, Margaret Mann (Ronald), Berniece Banet (Odell), Catherine Baumann (Alvin "Red"), Raymond Schmidt (Mary), and Virgil Schmidt; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jude and Marcella (Gettelfinger) Kruer.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Raymond Gettelfinger; sons, Dennis, David, and Duane; daughter, Barbara Beach and her husband, Chris; grandchildren, Todd Gettelfinger and his wife, Jennifer, Kristin Gettelfinger and her husband, Erik Robinson, Chloe Beach, and Kyle Beach.

Dorothy was a lifelong active member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. She lived her faith by volunteering many hours on various organizations and formed lasting friendships there. She found her passion in decorating the church for many years and dearly loved reflecting upon the Christmas Nativity scene. Her other passion was farming and outworked everyone in the fields daily. She took great pride in growing the most beautiful vegetables for local favorite restaurants and grocery stores. She was farm-to-table before farm-to-table was chic. When it was time to rest, she enjoyed a rousing game of Euchre or Poker with their lifelong "card gang" friends, family, and grandkids. You could also find her in the kitchen preparing delicious meals, and she was known for her wonderful desserts. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and friend and will be deeply missed.

The family would like to express their gratitude to her special nurses at Kindred Hospice, especially Ashley; and her loving caregivers, Ellen, Jane, Melissa, Kelli, and Peggy, whose love and care for her were a blessing.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 Saint Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs, Indiana) with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
