Dorothy "Dottie" Mae Black, of Louisville, Ky, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at home with her husband and daughters at her side. She was 84 years old. Born in Bristol, PA, Dottie was the daughter of the late Walter A Garretson and Florence Carson Garretson.
Dottie was the beloved wife of Samuel W. Black. High school sweet hearts, they were married over 62 years. In addition to her husband Samuel, Dottie will be missed and remembered by her children, Sandra Ames (Jon), and Sue Ellen Black, and her granddaughter Rylee Huffman-Wells (Josh). She is also survived by her sister Margret A Joseph, of Cincinnati Ohio. Dottie leaves behind her niece, Andrea and nephews Richard, David, John, Gary, Glenn, and their families.
A graduate of Bristol High School and Temple University Hospital School of Nursing, Dottie worked as a Registered Nurse in the Lower Bucks County Hospital nursery, as a high school nurse at Bristol High School, and as a Certified Occupational Health nurse at Rohm and Haas Company in Louisville Kentucky.
In Bristol, Dottie was active in the Junior Travel Club, St James Episcopal church Altar Guild and the Bristol area Girls Scout Council as a troop leader and Cookie Sales Chairman. In Kentucky, she was active in the St Thomas Episcopal Church Altar Guild and Louisville Chapter L of P.E.O. In her retirement she and her husband traveled the world extensively with their friends Dave and Jeanne Harris of Hulmeville, PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Service at 11:00 am, Saturday October 29, 2022 at St Thomas Episcopal Church, 9616 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40241. Her interment will take place privately, on a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Home of the Innocents 1100 E. Market Street, Louisville KY 40206-9935.
