Doris Mae (Dawkins) Cecil

Doris Mae Cecil, 92, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on November 14, 2014. She graduated from Louisville Girls High School, Class of 1940 with honors. Doris was a bookkeeper for Mengel Furniture Company until she married in 1943. She was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church.

Doris was born on June 1, 1922, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Walter and Eva Mae (Barnes) Dawkins. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 71 years, Joseph Doyle Cecil, formerly of Holy Cross, Kentucky.

A loving mother and grandmother, Doris is survived by her daughter; Karen (Leon) Wright, sons; Gary (Roberta) Cecil, Kevin (Evelyn) Cecil, four grandchildren; Robin Hudson, Shelley Schuler (Mark), Lauren Flippin (John) and Jeremy Cecil, along with seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville).

Funeral ceremonies will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 12:00pm at the funeral home with burial immediately to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
