Donald Seiter

January 10, 1931 — February 15, 2021

Donald Seiter passed away at his home in Louisville, Kentucky on Monday February 15, 2021 at the age of 90, surrounded by family. Don was born in Cincinnati, OH to Ralph and Mildred (nee Bonham) Seiter on January 10, 1931.

Don graduated from Greenhills High School in 1950, the first of his family to do so. He then served in the U.S. Air Force as a mechanic on a B29 Bomber. He retired, at the rank of Sergeant in December of 1952. Don married the love of his life, Shirley Lee Harrison, on June 21, 1952. They were married 65 years until her passing in November 2017. Don loved music and had a fine singing voice, but his passion was for sports. In high school, he participated and lettered in all sports, earning his lifelong nickname "Sid" - the bull from a football team mate, but his greatest love was baseball. He was a talented Catcher and he held high aspirations of going into pro baseball, until a serious injury to his arm sidelined those dreams. Don remained active in many sports throughout his adult life including softball, bowling, and golf. Don was able to build, repair, or make almost anything. He held several jobs, throughout his life that reflected his amazing talents, from clock and watch repair, carpentry work, installing and servicing HVAC systems, and positions as a technical sales rep in that field.

Don is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his brother Jack, his sisters Elaine Seiter, and Judy (Sherm) Drew. Don is survived by his children, Lynne (John) Orr, Karen (Jim) Piatt, and Shari (Ken) Gerold. His grandchildren Allison (John) Rizer, Diana Orr, Jennifer (Brad) Keck, Brian (Ashley) Piatt, Julie (Joe) Miles, and Lisa (Evans) Lolli, as well as 11 great grandchildren, brothers Roger (Judy) Seiter, and Richard (Chris) Seiter. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom loved and respected him, he will be greatly missed by all.

Don will be interred next to his wife, Shirley, at Arlington Memorial Garden Mausoleum. The family will have a Memorial Service and Visitation from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Zion Lutheran Church 212 Front Street in downtown Hamilton Ohio. The church will follow COVID guidelines and limits for public gatherings, masks will be required. Further details will be posted or provided closer to the date of the service.
