Donald L. Scalf Sr.

June 26, 1957 — February 10, 2024

Donald L. Scalf, Sr., age 66, passed from this life on Saturday, February 10th at Baptist Floyd Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was an alumnus of the 1975 Class at Floyd Central High School. After graduation he joined the family working at the Farm Bureau Co-op in New Albany, Indiana. A man of many different skills and abilities, he would go on to work at Tri-City Tank Wash, Kentuckiana Tank Wash, and Carroll's Mobile Homes. He concluded his working career as an engine-builder with Jeff Taylor Performance. It was during his time at JTP where he affectionately gained the nickname "Chief."

He was born on June 26, 1957 to Willie Bert, Sr. and Margie O. Scalf (Farnsley). He is preceded in death by his parents and older brothers Willie Bert, Jr. and Elmer D. "Ralph" Scalf.

Donnie is survived by his loving wife of nearly 37 years, Lisa Scalf (Lynch); their children Becki Nifong (Craig), Judy Babcock (Ryan), Brandi Scalf, Joshua Scalf (Samantha), and Donald Scalf, Jr. (Elizabeth); siblings Molly Stotts (Mitch), and Nelson Scalf, Sr.; 9 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.

He was a man of many hobbies and was an avid motorsports enthusiast from his teenage years. He spent several years building and racing his own motorcycles and would go on to win multiple races at Harrison County and Ohio Valley Dragways. He won the 1981 NHRA Division 3 Championship in Indianapolis, Indiana. Later in his motorsports career he greatly enjoyed acting as Crew Chief for his wife and son, where they would collect 4 more Championships.

Apart from the dragstrip, he was a self-taught woodworker and inventor. He loved to tinker and create dollhouses and toys for his grandkids. He loved playing board and card games, but was never known to have played an honest game of Monopoly. He loved spending time with his family, kids, and grandkids, especially if go-karts were involved.
