Donald Paul Matchuny

November 16, 1937 — February 9, 2025

Jeffersonville, Indiana

Donald Paul Matchuny, affectionately known as Don, passed away on February 9, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 16, 1937, Don dedicated over 50 years of his life to working in fire suppression systems, where he earned the respect and trust of friends, employees, and even his competitors in business.

Don was not only a successful professional but also a devoted family man. He raised three sons, Jim (Kathy) Matchuny, Bob Matchuny, and John (Lisa) Matchuny, imparting a wry sense of humor that was cherished and carried on by his boys. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Amber (Curtis) Johnson, Alex, Joshua, Kali, Jacob (Margaret), and Morgan Matchuny, who brought immense joy to his life.

Throughout his life, Don had a passion for boating and relished spending time with family and friends, often sharing good laughter and great memories. His interests extended to a love for Nascar, a sport that he followed with enthusiasm.

One of Don's proudest accomplishments was the construction of a remarkable 95-foot houseboat named Nora's Ark, which he built with the help of family and friends in honor of his beloved wife, Nora Rita Matchuny, who preceded him in death after 62 years of marriage. This project was just one example of his readiness to take on big challenges, including the construction of his boat and the landing for his boat and RV.

Don is survived by his sons and grandchildren, as well as his sister, Lois Quintana; and his daughter-in-law, Debbie Matchuny. His kindness and willingness to assist friends in need exemplified the deep bonds he formed throughout his life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and respect among those who knew him.

He is now reunited with his parents, Paul Matchuny and Thelma "June" Blaut Matchuny, and his beloved wife, Nora. Don's memory will forever be cherished by family and friends, who are grateful for the moments shared and the lasting impact he has left on their lives.

Cremation was chosen following Don's wishes and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
