Donald L. Abshire, Jr., 64, of Jeffersonville, IN passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2011. Out of high school, Donald became the youngest ever mine foreman in the state of West Virginia. He enlisted in the West Virginia Army National Guard in 1966 and served a term of 6 years. Donald then went on to attend the University of Ohio and the University of Louisville. He received his doctorate from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University. Donald practiced corporate bankruptcy for over 25 years in Louisville and participated in the Federal Court in New Albany.
Donald was born on August 12, 1947 in Matheny, WV to the late Donald L. and Elsie M. (Banther) Abshire. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jerri Peck.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Linda M. (Burks) Abshire; children, Donald L. Abshire, III, Yvette Middleton, Michelle Stamper; sister, Darlene Radichel (Brad); brother-in-law, Bobby Peck; grandchildren, Robert, Daniel, Kaylee; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Hannah.
Visitation will be from 3 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Thursday, September 20 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
