Donald R. "Donnie" Hadorn, 67, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 6, 2012 with his family by his side at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany. Donnie graduated from Trinity High School in 1962. From there, he went to Maryknoll Seminary and St. Meinrad to study theology. He then graduated from Bellarmine College in 1967 with a degree in Sociology. Donnie proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was owner and baker of Hadorn's Bakery for 35 years on Dixie Highway where he touched people's lives with his delicious baked goods.
His strong work ethic led him to a job a Williams Bakery in Clarksville, Indiana following his retirement in 2007. In his free time, Donnie enjoyed bowling, reading, cooking, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany.
Donnie was born on December 24, 1944 in Louisville to the late, Carl A. and Helen E.( Anneken) Hadorn.
He is survived by his wife, of 44 years, Mary K. (Hall) Hadorn; daughters, Michelle Whitehouse (Don) of Alpharetta, GA, Lisa Kaelin (Tom) of Floyds Knobs, and Monica Oetken (Kevin) of Louisville; brothers, Carl Hadorn (Barbara), Ronald Hadorn (Lindy), Jerry Hadorn (Laura); sisters, Jean Kinnarney (Tom) and Linda Farris (Richard); and grandchildren, Rachel and Eric Whitehouse, Emma and Casey Kaelin, and Eli and Finn Oetken, and a grandchild due in October.
Visitation will be from 12 to 7 PM Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a Prayer Service at 4 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with military honors and entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
