Donald R. Goins passed away on April 27, 2024, at the age of 87 in Louisville, Kentucky. Don
always faced life with a smile and did so through his final days.
Donald is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 41 years Charlotte (Feldhaus) Goins,
his loving children, Danny (Melanie), Donna McClure (Tim), David (Carol) and Diane Allen
(Jesse Boone), his two loving stepdaughters, Carrie Kirby (Wayne) and Missy Jordan (Jim), his
sister Edna Jean Rucker, sister-in-law Trudi Goins, brother-in-law Michael Feldhaus (Sandy),
and his brother-in-law Russell Broughton (Pat), grandchildren Laura, Becky, Andy, Matt, Julia,
Dawson, Candace, Tyler, Campbell, Grant, and Skyler and great-grandchildren Lois, Joan,
Jackson, Addie, Noah, Owen, Elise, Miles, Daizy, DaniJo, Maesyn, Jentry, and Julia.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Julia (Turner) Goins, brother James
Stanley Goins, brother-in-law Raymond Rucker, sister- and brother-in-law Kathy and Frank
Stewart and daughter-in-law Nancy Sasse.
In his early years, Donald enjoyed racing dirt bikes and was a member of the Woodsmen
Motorcycle Club. He served as president in 1975 and 1976. He was a staunch University of
Kentucky basketball fan, enjoyed all things mechanical, and was an auto racing enthusiast. Don
enjoyed hunting (especially deer camp), woodworking, and an occasional sip of cherry bourbon.
Don spent many years working for Darling Company and retired from a second career as a
franchisee of Appalachian Log Structures.
Donald lived his faith in the love he showed others. He was a member and six-year trustee of
Crescent Hill United Methodist Church where he was blessed with many friends.
The family expresses extreme gratitude to Hosparus volunteers Ayla, Hannah, and Jenni for
their kind and loving care.
We will celebrate Don's life on Sunday, May 5, with visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. followed by
a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau
Dr., Louisville).
