Donald Gene Strickland

Donald Gene Strickland, 77, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. He was born on June 23, 1937, in Johnson City, TN to the late Robert Kay and Mae Bell (Merritt) Strickland. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and father-in-law.
He was avid University of Tennessee fan and was an active Mason and Shriner. Don retired from the City of Louisville. He was a founding member of the Bon Air Optimist Club and former head football coach at St. Martha Catholic Schools. Along with parents he is preceded in death by his brothers; Howard, Kenneth, Glen, and Robert, sisters; Melva Coyle and Thelma Hughes.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 52 years; Peggy (Cheshire) Strickland, daughters; Becky Wymer (Gabe), Teri Strickland, granddaughter; Rachel Wymer along with a host of family and friends.
A mass will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 10:00 am located at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Lane, Louisville, KY 40218. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243.
A masonic service will be held on Sunday evening at 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kosair Childrens's Hospital, 231 East Chestnut Street, Louisville, KY 40202.
