Donald Joseph Bradford, a devoted family man and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 92. Born on January 10, 1932, in the same city, Donald lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his profession, and his country.
A proud graduate of Flaget High School, class of 1952, Don went on to serve his country as a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. His military service instilled in him a sense of discipline and commitment that he carried throughout his life.
As a retired electrician, Don had a long and fulfilling career with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 369. His work not only demonstrated his technical skills but also his steadfastness and reliability, attributes that made him a respected figure among his peers.
Don was an active member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, where he found community and fellowship. His passion for the University of Louisville Football Team was well known, and he enjoyed tailgating before and after games. In addition to his love for sports, Don enjoyed the time he spent in Florida during the winter months.
He is survived by his four children: Cheri Abell, Katherine Nord (Gary), Donald "Joe" Bradford, II (Kathy), and Michael Bradford (Jennifer); ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Gladys Woodson, and many nieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn Bradford, and his parents, Patrick H. Bradford, Sr. and Katherine Young Bradford. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Patrick H. Bradford, Jr. and William "Bud" Bradford, and his sister, Annie Bradford Clayton.
A Celebration of Life and a prayer service to honor Don's life will take place on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Dr., Louisville, KY 40243. The Celebration of Life will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a prayer service at 12:00 PM. Burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Don will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his service to his country, and the joy he brought to those around him. His spirit will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Catholic Education was important to Don, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Flaget Alumni Association.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff and nurses of the Willows at Springhurst for their exceptional care and attention they showed to Don during his time there.
