Don E. Peoples, 89, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Wednesday evening, September 7, 2011 at his residence. Don was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired safety and ammunitions inspector for the federal government at the ICI Ammunitions Plant in Charlestown, Indiana. Don was a Kentucky Colonel, an elder at Eastside Christian Church in Jeffersonville, and a former member of Calvary Christian Church in Sellersburg.
Don was born on February 8, 1922 in Pemberville, Ohio to the late Vere B. and Maude (Burkett) Peoples. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Jean L. (Murray) Peoples; great-granddaughter, Jyllian; and sister, Doris.
He is survived by his children, Laurel L. Gariepy (David) of Warner Robins, GA and Timothy E. Peoples (Julie) of New Albany; grandchildren, Stephen Gariepy, Sarah Quick, Stacy Allen, Erica Malloch; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and Monday morning, 9 to 11 AM. His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Monday, September 12, in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
