Dick Christensen

Louisville, Kentucky

Dick Christensen was born on Friday the 13th of April 1934, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dick is the son of the late Reverend Paul J. and Marjorie Christensen.

He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend, and neighbor and will be remembered for his love of God and his dedication to serving others.

Dick graduated with honors in Civil Engineering from Ohio University. Carolyn and Dick met at Ohio University and were married on August 4, 1956. At 22 years of age, Dick was sent from Ashland, KY to Charleston, South Carolina by the Air Force to build six hundred homes at Charleston Air Force Base. Later, Carolyn, Dick and family returned to Ashland Oil, where he spent his entire career.

Once retired, Dick and Carolyn moved to Destin, Florida. He was active in the community and was a board member of the local fire department. He also taught Sunday School to teens and later to adults in the local Methodist church.

Dick loved golf. He played every Sunday after Church with three Presbyterian friends. He loved to play golf with his son, Rick. Carolyn and Dick enjoyed traveling river cruises in Europe. They also explored the Mediterranean and areas from St. Petersburg, Russia to the British Isles. The most interesting trip was cruising the Nile. Later Dick fulfilled a lifelong dream to visit the Holy Land.

Dick is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carolyn, his children Cathy Gallagher (Steve), Linda Newman (David) and Rick Christensen, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Dick will take place on February 8, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM at Middletown United Methodist Church, located at 11902 Old Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40243.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship and unwavering dedication to God and his family that will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kentucky United Methodist Children’s Homes.
