Dennis Reed, Sr.

Dennis F. "Denny" Reed, Sr., 76, of Georgetown, Indiana passed away on July 9, 2011 at his residence. Denny served in the United States Navy where he retired in 1975 as a Chief Boiler Technician. During his Navy career, he served in both Korea and Vietnam on board heavy cruisers and destroyers. Denny also retired after nearly 25 years for Westvaco in Charleston, South Carolina as an iron worker, pipe fitter, welder, and general mechanic. He was a proud member of American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post 28 and VFW Hobart Beach Post 1693 in New Albany.

Denny was born on March 19, 1935 in Georgetown to the late Foster B. and Faye E. (Stucker) Reed. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Ann Kennedy.

He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 30 years, Margaret Rose (Clifford) Reed; children, Diana L. Russell and Bryan S. Reed; four other children; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 12 to 7 PM on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 7 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home with military honors to follow.
