Denise Michelle Shockley, affectionately known as "Mommy" and "Wawa", passed into the arms of the Lord, with her beloved kitty cat "Ms. Mia Purr Kitty", on April 16, 2025, in her hometown of Louisville, KY. Born on October 13, 1954, Denise touched the lives of many with her free-spirited nature, compassionate heart, and unwavering loyalty to those she loved.
A proud graduate of Seneca High School, Denise dedicated over a decade of her career to Kirby Vacuum Cleaners, where her diligence and dedication were greatly appreciated by her colleagues. Beyond her professional life, she found joy in being surrounded by her family, creating memories as a loving matriarch who cherished every moment spent with them.
Denise had an undeniable zest for life. She was known for her fun-loving spirit and her enthusiasm for social gatherings, she never met a stranger which made her the life of every party. Her hobbies reflected her vibrant personality; she loved animals, cooking (especially her famous macaroni and cheese and carrot cake), dancing, singing, and tending to her beautiful garden filled with flowers. Whether she was traveling to new places or enjoying her favorite game shows, Denise's laughter and warmth brought joy to all who knew her.
Her greatest accomplishment was watching her family grow, as she embraced each new generation with open arms. Denise's legacy is carried on by her children: Sarah (Brent) Follensbee, Julia D (James) Popp, Joseph C (Crystal) Shockley, and her most favorite person in the world, Paul A Shockley. She was a proud Wawa, to Andrew, Luke, Briana, Raquel (Skyler), Joseph, Ashton, Chloe, and Jasen, and a cherished great-grandmother to Nevaeh, Ivory, Samuel, and Zayden; her aid Anita, whom she loved like a daughter; a Best friend to, Mary Ellen Hoke; a devote cousin to, Lee DeSpain ; and a loving sister to, Richard Brabandt (Mary Ann), and Thomas Brabandt (Donna); niece, Gabriele Kays; Sister-in law, Teri McGeeney; many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Though Denise is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ruth Nalty; her father, James R Nalty; and her brothers, Dennis Nalty and Fr. James Brabandt, her spirit will forever remain alive in the hearts of her family and friends. As they reflect on her life, they will remember her kindness, her laughter, and the unconditional love she shared so freely.
Denise's legacy of love, joy, and compassion will continue to inspire all who had the honor of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, but her vibrant spirit will shine on in the memories she leaves behind.
