Della Mae Morris, 81 of Middletown, Ky., passed away to be with her Saviour on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Kindred Healthcare at Jewish Hospital.
She was born April 12, 1928 in Louisville to John and Evelyn Wigginton. She was a graduate of Presentation High School and Spencerian Business College. She was a lifelong homemaker as well as a secretary and bookkeeper for several local firms, including the old Kentucky Southern College. She was a devout Catholic and has been a member of St. Margaret Mary Church for 40 years, and then a founding member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
She led a full, active and vibrant life. She was a devoted wife and mother. Della was an avid bowler, golfer and loved to dance and travel. She was a member of the Long Run Ladies Golf Association, The Ladies Auxilliary of the Middletown VFW, Fegenbush Lane Moose Lodge, Middletown Senior Citizens Group and numerous other groups.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 49 years, Edward, and by her beloved companion in her later years, Ray Olliges.
Survivors left behind to cherish her memory include her son, Edward Morris; her daughter-in-law and caregiver, Cindy Morris; two grandchildren, Lori Dawkins (Kyle) and Eric Morris; one sister, Phyllis Smith (Leon); her loving nephews and nieces, Donna Mollyhorn (Gary), Terry Smith (Tammy), John Smith (Pam), Gary Morris; two step-grandchildren, Ryan and Taylor Benzick; her most cherished great-granddaughter, Estelle Morris; and all her wonderful friends and neighbors in Middletown.
The family gives their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful people at Bashford East Nursing Home and Kindred Health Services, who gave all they had to provide dignity, comfort and happiness to this remarkable lady.
A celebration of Mrs. Morris' life will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009 from Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, with interment in Historic Middletown Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon to 8:00 p.m. and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday.
