Deborah Sue Benningfield, affectionately known as Debbie, passed away on February 7, 2025, just days shy of her 71st birthday. Born on February 15, 1954, in New Albany, Indiana, she left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Debbie will be remembered for her strength and courage, often facing life's battles with unwavering resolve. Her selflessness was evident to all; she consistently put the needs of others before her own, embodying true generosity of spirit. Her smile was a beacon of warmth that drew people in, and it had a special way of brightening even the darkest days. Debbie enjoyed the simple things in life like watching a good soap opera, often becoming captivated by the stories that unfolded. These moments of leisure were a source of comfort and enjoyment for her, offering her a chance to escape into another world.
Debbie is survived by her beloved daughter, Natalie Wilkerson (Chris), and her son, George Gregory Wilkerson (Rachel). She also cherished her role as a grandmother to Taylor Bishop. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Charlie (Mary Ellen) Hentrup.
Her legacy also includes the memory of her parents, Urban Hentrup and Edna Smith Hentrup, who preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). Her Funeral Service will follow at 6:30 pm on Thursday, at the funeral home. Cremation was chosen following Debbie's wishes.
