David J. McLaughlin, 83, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away peacefully on November 1, 2021. He was born on January 27, 1938 in Buffalo, New York, the only child of Mrs. Virginia (Shriver) McLaughlin and Mr. James T. McLaughlin.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Boyle) McLaughlin, with whom he recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. David was a devoted father to his three children, Kathleen M. Cole, Christine P. Bond, and Timothy P. McLaughlin; and loving father-in-law to Melinda R. (Thomas) McLaughlin. He was blessed with nine grandchildren, Michael J. McLaughlin, Nora K. Bond, Quentin R. Bond, Thomas B. Cole II, Jane E. Cole, Nathan D. McLaughlin, Andrew D. Cole, Connor D. McLaughlin, and Anna L. McLaughlin; and one great-grandchild, Genevieve M. M. McLaughlin.
David earned an undergraduate degree from Canisius College and a master's degree from Boston College. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army where he rose to the rank of Captain. David held human resources and labor relations leadership roles for several manufacturing firms, most recently with Lear Corporation in Louisville. David was an active member at Epiphany Catholic Church where he and his wife enjoyed doing volunteer work.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate David's life will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, November 12, 2021 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church (7813 Shelbyville Rd). The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until the service time Friday at the church.
The family requests that masks be worn by those who will be in attendance.
