David Lee Thompson

David Lee Thompson, 64, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Born on November 6, 1960, David was the son of James Thompson and Sharon (Roberts) Davenport. He was a proud Army veteran, serving as a Thai language morse code intercept operator during his time in the military. David's service exemplified his commitment to his country and his dedication to learning, which characterized his entire life.

David was an avid fisherman who found joy and peace in the tranquility of nature. His life was marked by self-education and a professional demeanor; he took pride in his capabilities, constantly seeking to expand his knowledge and skills. Known to many for his unique signature "Phooee" license plate, David approached life with a sense of humor and personality that left a memorable impression on those he encountered, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. 

He is preceded in death by his father, James Chester Thompson; his mother, Sharon Marie Davenport; and his son, James David Thompson.

David is survived by his loving son, Jeremy Thompson; his sisters, Victoria Thompson, Beth (Jerry) Wiseman, and Cheryl Shanks; his brother, Jason (Heather) Thompson; along with many other cherished family members and friends who will miss him dearly. David's legacy of kindness, humor, and strength will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

David's wish was to be cremated and a gathering of family and friends from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany, (3309 Ballard Lane), with a memorial service including military honors beginning at 4:00pm. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions in David's memory to be made to the Floyd County Animal Rescue League.
