David Holobaugh

David Burton Holobaugh, 70, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. David was a decorated Vietnam veteran of the U. S. Army and received such honors as the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60, Air Medal with 34 Oak Leaf Clusters, a Ranger Tab, and Army Aviator Badge for his service during the war. He was a U. S. Army pilot and Ranger who selflessly volunteered to serve in Vietnam after graduating from Rose Polytechnic Institute where he was involved in ROTC. He was a member of Dayspring Emmaus Community of Southern Indiana, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Floyds Knobs, and Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Manteo, North Carolina.

David was born on October 25, 1942 in Tampa, Florida to the late David B., Sr., and Margaret (Holloway) Holobaugh. He is also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Todd Holobaugh.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sandra K. Holobaugh; son, David Burton Holobaugh III (Kim); daughter, Kellie D. Holobaugh; grandchildren, Lindsay Marie Holobaugh and David Burton Holobaugh IV; sister, Bernadette Karnhem; and brother, Dwight Holobaugh.

David founded general contracting company, David Engineering and Construction, Inc., in 1979 and was voted the 1990 Entrepreneur of the Year in Louisville, Kentucky. David was an active University of Louisville sports fan and donor to the U of L Athletic Department. He gained much joy from attending the games and rooting for the athletes and teams. David was an avid fisherman and traveled the world on fishing expeditions with friends and family throughout his life. Deep-sea fishing from his own fishing boat was one of his many passions. He was devoted to his family, particularly his wife, Sandy, and grandchildren, Lindsay and David, and his many nieces and nephews.

His Visitation will be from 1 to 6 PM Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be 11 AM Monday at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church (2100 Highway 150, Floyds Knobs) with burial and military honors to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Floyds Knobs.
