David Lester Allen, 67, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away serving the Lord on Wednesday April 27, 2022. He was born September 21, 1954, in New Albany and was raised in nearby Leavenworth, Indiana. In his earlier years, David was a farmer and started his career with LG&E. A successful businessman, he owned and operated Country Style Restaurant since 1983. David cared deeply for his community and took many opportunities to serve where he could. David was a longtime member of the Republican Party, an avid IU Basketball fan, a racing enthusiast, and, more recently, the Lord led him to serve as an associate pastor with SPC Worship Center in Crawford County. Above all his successes in life, David loved his family, his many friends, and serving the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his father, Lester L. Allen; and granddaughter, Mackenzie Allen.
David is survived by his loving wife, Myra Allen; mother, Clara Mae Allen; children, Travis Allen and Heather (Josh) Phillips; stepchildren, Shalyn (Adam) Lindsey and Savanah (Caleb) Stewart; grandchildren Ethan Phillips and Hannah Allen; step-grandchildren, Gabe, Gracye, Zach, Lyla, Lincoln, Lawson, and Anderson; and step-great-grandson, Greyson.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday May 2, 2022, and Tuesday May 3, 2022, after 9:00 a.m. (Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Abundant Life Memorial Gardens. Pastor Chad Stroud will officiate the service. Brother Larry Warren will give the devotion, followed by a time of reflection for anyone who has a story to share.
