Dr. David Alden Steere, PhD, age 81 of Louisville, passed away Friday, October 19, 2012 at his home. He was a minister and professor at the Presbyterian Seminary. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Marjorie Roberts Steere, and his son-in-law, Peter Monroy.
Dr. Steere held degrees from Centre College, the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He was a Distinguished Alumnus of both Centre College and Louisvile Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Professor Emeritus of Pastoral Care and Counseling and founder and Director of the acclaimed marriage and Family Thereapy Program at the Seminary. Dr. Steere was a Diplomate of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and an approved Supervisor and Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. He has authored and edited articles on pastoral counseling and marital family therapy.
Dr. Steere is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, the former Margaret Enos; children, Andrew Steere, Tevis Steere (Katherine) and Elizabeth Monroy); grandchildren, Sophie, Samuel, Hannah and Joseph Steere; sister, Carolyn Clayton (John); brother and sister-in-law Jim and Sarah Brown; and daughter-in-law, Paula Schoenhoff. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive. Burial will be private. A memorial celebration of Dr. Steere's life will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25th in the Caldwell Chapel at the Louisville Presbyterian Seminary, 1044 Alta Vista Road. Instead of flowers, please make memorials to the Presbyterian Seminary or donor's charity of choice.
