Darrell Wayne Forbes

Darrell Wayne Forbes, 63 of Louisville, Kentucky died on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 following a long battle with cancer. Darrell is survived by his: wife, Carrie Forbes; two daughters, Marissa Forbes and Andrea Lapp; son, Dennis Smith; four grandchildren, Jerami Tewsley, Jozelynn Sego, Sebastian Kamer, and Owen Lapp; and four fur babies, Choo Choo, Charger, Juliet, and Leo.

Time is deceiving and it is rarely on your side. But time, or rather the lack of it is never more apparent than when faced with death. It was both a wonderful blessing and a terrible curse for Darrell to know that his time in this world would be cut short. Caught between wanting to fight for every possible minute and wanting the pain to end, he focused on capturing as many moments with his loved ones as he could until his last breath.

Darrell had a heart full of love for his family and friends. Before Darrell was bedridden, he requested to have a joyous family reunion in place of a sad, solemn funeral. All he wanted was to spend time with the people that meant so much to him, and to be able to say goodbye in his own way on his own terms. On June 5, 2022 Darrell's family happily granted him his request. He remarked that it was one of the best days of his life, because he was able to completely appreciate and cherish such a gift. That day, Darrell took home memories that sustained him throughout what would be his last weeks.

Loving husband. Caring father. Fiercely loyal. Amazingly brave. Deeply good. Darrell, the dedicated Louisville Cardinals fan and avid fisherman will live on in his children and grandchildren, and in the hearts of everyone that knew him. Because if you truly knew him, then you truly loved him, and rest-assured, he loved you back.
