Darius A. Maldonado, age 25 of Prospect, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from injuries in a motorcycle accident. Darius Maldonado was born in New York City in New York Hospital and moved to Louisville Kentucky when he was two years old. He attended Chancey Elementary and St. Mary Academy. He belonged to St. Bernadette Catholic Church. He graduated from Trinity High school in 2016 where he wrestled and played rugby. Darius worked at Auto zone and recently became the store Manager at the Fern Creek Auto Zone.
Darius was a kind hearted soul and a caring Brother. He went out of his way to help others including Family, Friends and even strangers. He was known to bring flowers to other mothers he knew on Mothers Day. He would stop and help stranded people on the roadside to change their flat tires. He brought great energy to wherever he went. He always greeted everyone with his beautiful smile. He was adventurous, affectionate, caring, ambitious and reliable. Darius never let his hardships or other challenges affect his Optimistic personality.
Darius had a unique love for cars and attending Car shows. His dream was to one day, to rebuild and showcase his own classic car. In his free time, He would often read Auto repair/mechanic books, cover to cover. When Darius wasn't working, you could find him at the YMCA at Norton Commons working out and making new friends. One of his most recent accomplishments was running in his first Derby Festival Mini Marathon with his Mother and Brother.
Darius was a proud Puerto Rican, aka boricua. He embraced his culture and heritage, he was recently diving into the Classic Salsa music scene. He loved his mother's and uncle's cooking, Wepa. He is preceded in death by his father, Antonio Maldonado; grandparents, Julio and Adelaida Zayas; and cousin, Emilio Zayas.
Darius is survived by his loving mother, Diana Zayas; brother, Jonathan Maldonado; uncle, Julio Zayas (Michele); cousins, Lucia Zayas (Oliver), Julio F Zayas (Krystal), Hilda Gutirrez (Jose) and Jesus Gutirrez. He leaves behind many others including his Auto Zone family as well as aunts, uncles and cousins from the Bradford family.
Visitation will be 2 to 8pm on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 and from 9:30am until time of service on Wednesday, August 23rd at Newcomer Cremations Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243. A celebration of Darius' life will be at the funeral home at 11am on Wednesday, followed by interment in Floydsburg Cemetery, Crestwood, Kentucky.
