Daniel J. "Danny" Downs

SSG Daniel J. "Danny" Downs USAR (Rt.), 67, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, surrounded by his family. Danny retired from Fireking ITL after 38 years of service and was also a proud member of Teamsters. He served in the United States Army during Desert Storm and went on to retire after 22 years in the Reserves. Danny was an avid UofL fan, outdoor enthusiast, and Paw Paw extraordinaire. A devout Episcopalian, Danny was a longtime member of St. Paul's in New Albany.

He was born on September 3, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Douglas and Marcella (Fichteman) Downs. In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Downs; sister-in-law, Joyce Downs; and brother-in-law, Charles Mester.

Danny is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pamela (Lawson) Downs; daughters, Janna Docs (Robert) and Emily Downs (Dirk Hosier); siblings, Dickie Downs, Mary Mester, and Rita Sears (Bobby); grandson, Nathan Docs; sister-in-law, Bonnie Lawson (Julie Domeck); and beloved pets, Sparky, Smokey, and Sierra.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Friday after 11:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the chapel at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
