Dana Rene Oliver

Dana Rene Oliver was born in New Albany, Indiana, to the union of late parents Frazier Oliver and Gladys (McPheeters) Oliver. Dana was baptized at Second Baptist Church and attended Galatian Baptist Church in New Albany, Indiana. She attended New Albany High School, Class of 1973 and attended Indiana University Bloomington where she became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

She was the sister of Jacquelyn Oliver-Cross and Gayle K. Collins (Ronnie); the aunt of Eric Collins and Danielle Collins; the great-aunt of Keonna Collins and Olivia Collins; the niece of James McPheeters, Wilma Offutt, LaVonne Mukes, Vera Middleton, and the late Dude, Marx, Laverne, Sam, Tony, Arthur and Kenny McPheeters; and had a host of cousins and friends.

Dana was an amazing woman. She lived her life to the fullest. She was an entrepreneur and owner of Mystical Whims Jewelry, specializing in 925 Sterling Silver Jewelry. She participated in trade festivals, including Harvest Homecoming and Kentucky State Fair, and had a booth at Derby Park Traders Circle Flea Market-Louisville.

Dana was both ambitious and a hard worker. During the day she worked full time as an Administrative Assistant for The Louisville Redbirds Baseball Franchise (now known as the Louisville Bats) and at night worked as a waitress for several establishment. Dana was a talker and charmer ... that girl knew how to get a good tip! Other occupations included Store Manager and Optician for Monfried Optical in Downtown Louisville Galleria and in Wichita, Kansas.

Dana was an avid reader and loved the arts. She participated in school plays and volunteered at Kentucky Center for the Arts. She enjoyed traveling with friends and relatives. Dana also enjoyed bowling and was on several leagues. Let's not forget that Dana was notorious for being late ... but you had to love her!

Her favorite things: All things chocolate. More specifically M&M Candies (original and peanut), cats, lotion, Big Red Pop, Scotch, butterflies, wind chimes, her flower and vegetable garden, and German Chocolate Cake. Her favorite saying: Aren't you proud of me????

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home – Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150). A gathering will immediately follow the service until 2:00 p.m.
