Dalphon Jones Thompson, 90, of Horry County, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022 in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was born on November 20, 1931 in Wampee, South Carolina to the late King Oren and Vera (Jones) Thompson. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Ruth Ann (Morris) Thompson and nephew, Gordon Lloyd Walters.
Dalphon was a graduate of the class of 1950 from Wampee-Little River High School. He joined Air Force after graduation in his pursuit of an education and met Ruth Ann while stationed at Fort Knox. He graduated with BA in theology from Georgetown College, KY and obtained masters of theology from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC.
Dalphon dedicated most of his life in service as church minister, prison chaplain and at age 80 retired from ministerial service as part time Chaplain at Myrtle Beach Travel Park.
Dalphon loved being in the sun, be it playing in the yard, garden, beach or anywhere in God's creations. He was a member and president of Lion's Club for many years.
He loved people and enjoyed traveling all over the world. His warmth and love of life was always felt by others.
Dalphon resided in Trilogy assisted living facilities in Louisville the final four years of his life.
Dalphon is survived by his daughters, Melanie Thompson-Roberts (Chuck), Marie Thompson Bate (Rick), son Dalphon Stephen Thompson, grandchildren; Brittany Thompson (Mac Fain), Cassie (Thompson) Keis (Kyle), Austin Vitucci, Natalie Vitucci, Aden Thompson, and one great-grandson, Wilder Vitucci. He is also survived by six siblings; Kenneth Thompson, Margie (Thompson) Mathisen, David Earl Thompson (Bobbie), Lavon Thompson (Lorene), Marsena (Thompson) Walters, Linda (Thompson) Etheredge (Steve) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Per Dalphon's wishes cremation was chosen and a Celebration of his Life will be held on January 7th, 2023 at 10am, Midtown Vineyard Church 504 27th Avenue North Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. He will be laid to rest next to Ruth Ann following the service at 12pm at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens, 65 SC-90, Little River, SC 29566.
