Cleveland "Junie" Graves, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, made his final bow on March 2, 2025, in the city of Louisville, Kentucky, where he was born on October 11, 1943. Junie embarked on a commendable career with LG&E, where he devoted an impressive 52 years of his life. Rising through the ranks to become a Supervisor in the Gas Department, he retired in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of diligence that inspired many of his colleagues. His work ethic was evident throughout his career, and he was respected by his colleagues for his meticulous nature and pride in every task he undertook.
Junie was the embodiment of meticulousness. He took immense pride in his appearance, ensuring he was always well-dressed, with his lawn and cars kept in pristine condition, reflecting the care and dedication he applied not only to his belongings but to all aspects of his life. Beyond the surface, he possessed an amiable spirit; his affectionate nature was evident as he would envelop his family and friends in warm hugs and kisses upon greeting them, a testament to his loving character.
Education was important to Junie, and he proudly graduated from St. Xavier High School, a milestone that set the stage for a life filled with achievements and lasting relationships. His passions were many, encompassing the joy of fishing with his son, Keith, and grandson, Kyle, laughter-filled moments spent with family, and the thrill of physical activities such as pickleball and cycling. As a proud member of the Louisville Bike Club, he embraced the outdoors with unrestrained enthusiasm. The love for his family extended beyond activities; he relished in the role of a devoted PaPaw to his grandchildren, Kyle, Emylie, and Megan, cherishing each moment he spent with them and celebrating their every milestone.
A unique character, Junie was often mistaken for the famous jockey, "Pat Day", a humorous anecdote that illuminated his presence. While he may not have raced horses, he certainly galloped through life with a zest that was infectious. His laughter rang out to the melodies of music, and his heart danced gracefully when he joined in the rhythms of life.
Junie is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jo Graves; his dear children, Keith Graves (Alecia) and Cynthia Graves; and his cherished grandchildren, Kyle Graves (Daisy), Emylie Lampe (Chadwick), and Megan Graves. He is lovingly remembered by his brothers, Ronnie Graves (Janet) and Michael Graves, along with his niece, Donna Hubrich. He now joins his parents, Cleveland Sr. and Virginia Graves, in eternal rest.
On March 24, 2025, friends and family will gather to remember Junie at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive). The visitation will begin at 3:00 PM and will lead into a memorial service at 6:00 PM.
As we celebrate the life of Cleveland "Junie" Graves, we hold fast to the memories cherished with him—his infectious laughter, his loving spirit, and his remarkable dedication to those he loved. He leaves behind a legacy woven into the very fabric of his family and countless friends who will forever be touched by his gentle and loving soul.
