Claudia G. Gillenwater, born on November 21, 1931, in Scottsville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home in, Kentucky, on November 18, 2024, while holding the hand of her beloved son, Stephen.
Claudia dedicated her life to caring for others, with a notable career spanning many office environments, where she supported medical laboratory services. Her warmth and kindness allowed her to connect deeply with those around her, creating lasting relationships. Known for her generous spirit, Claudia's home was often the heart of family gatherings, especially with the Nelson family, where she took pride in hosting, feeding loved ones, and sharing her rich life experiences.
Educated at Atherton High School and a business school where she later taught for a year, Claudia utilized her skills to improve the lives of others. A passionate caregiver, she ensured that everyone, including her four-legged companions, was happy and well-fed. She was also a talented seamstress, making most of her own clothes, which highlighted her creativity and dedication.
Claudia is survived by her loving son, Stephen R. Gillenwater, along with a host of friends who will remember her for her compassion and the joy she brought into their lives. Her legacy will endure in the hearts of those she touched.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Autie and Mary (Hughes) Guy, her brothers, Donald Hughes Guy and Ronald Reid Guy, as well as her grandmother, Mary "Mammy" Valeria Vinson.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).
Visitation will also be from 9:00 am until the time of the funeral service on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at funeral home with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
The family requests that contributions in Claudia’s memory be made to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
Claudia's life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to those she loved and the many ways she enriched their lives. She will be greatly missed but lovingly remembered.
