Claude B. Tuggle

August 16, 1934 — January 24, 2025

Louisville, KY

Claude B. Tuggle, born on August 16, 1934, in Monticello, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, in La Grange, Kentucky. He was a beloved member of his community and is remembered for his kindness, strong moral convictions, and lifelong dedication to his family and faith.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Claude served as a Tank Commander at Fort Hood, Texas during the Korean Conflict. His service instilled in him a strong sense of duty and camaraderie that influenced his life both personally and professionally. In 1965, he relocated to Louisville and began a career at the Kentucky Baptist Building, working as a printer for the Western Recorder Print Shop. Claude's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own business, Printing Needs, which he successfully managed for 30 years.

Claude was a devoted member of Westport Road Baptist Church, where he served in various roles throughout the years. He was particularly known for his warm greetings and sincere hugs at the church's back door, providing a welcoming presence to all who entered. His commitment to the church extended beyond its walls; he and his late wife, Katheryn Snavely Tuggle, were instrumental in supporting a Christian Retreat Center, The Plantings, for many years.

In addition to his professional and spiritual contributions, Claude found joy in hobbies such as bowling, where he was an active member and president of the church’s bowling league. He was also an ardent supporter of UK Basketball, a passion he shared with many friends and family. Claude's love for the outdoors was evident in his dedicated gardening efforts; he was known for maintaining one of the finest gardens in the area. His interest in antique cars led him to own and restore several treasured vehicles, showcasing his love for history and craftsmanship.

Claude is survived by his daughters, Sherrye Beckett (Tim) and Terri Thompson (Jimmy); grandchildren, Tamara Beckett (Alain), Traci Skaris (John), Kati Hereford, and Stephen Hereford (Chelsea); great-grandchildren, Ella, Aiden, Reagan, and Hazel; brother, Darrell Tuggle (Betty Sue); and sister, Reda Denny (Murrell).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katheryn; an infant son, Anthony Tuggle; and his parents, Addie and Maymie Tuggle. He also mourned the loss of several siblings: Eugene Tuggle, Lula Coffey, Arvis Tuggle, Betty Perdue, Roy Lee Tuggle, Bernice Watson, and Carlos Tuggle.
