Claude "Pogie" Decker, a beloved husband, devoted dad, and cherished Pop Pop, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on October 25, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky, Pogie was the son of the late Claude and Sara (Chasteen) Decker. His early life was shaped by the love of his family and the values instilled by his parents.
A skilled welder and tool and die maker, Pogie dedicated much of his life to his craft. His ability and precision in his work were matched only by his talents as a musician. Pogie was an amazing musician, playing both lead and slide guitar, sharing his musical gifts with family and friends. One of the precious memories he leaves behind is his joy in traveling with family and performing with the Midnite Special Band and Pogie's Project.
Pogie was a man of unparalleled kindness, characterized by his sweet demeanor and ever-present laughter. Those who knew him can attest to his patience and gentle spirit; he was not one to raise his voice, embodying a tranquility that was both comforting and endearing to all who encountered him. He was the most loving man and always put "family first".
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Debbie Decker, whose companionship enhanced his life immeasurably. Pogie was a proud father to his children, Shelby Bradshaw, Colby Decker (Tarah), and Jennifer Ray Pless (Kyle). He delighted in the company of his grandchildren, Weston, Hudson, Lou, Baylor, and Ava, who brought immense joy to his life.
Pogie's legacy is further enriched by the fond memories left by all who had the privilege to know him. Preceding him in death were his sister, Barbara Conway, and his brother, Johnny Richard Decker.
Claude "Pogie" Decker will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments and musical talent but also for the unwavering love and laughter he provided to his family and friends throughout his life. His spirit will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who loved him.
Per Pogie's wishes cremation was chosen with a private family service and celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
