Clarice Heck Poynter

April 27, 1935 — June 16, 2024

Louisville

Clarice Heck Poynter, born April 27 1935 in Louisville Ky, passed away at St Joseph Hospital in Burbank, CA on Sunday, June 16, 2024. She was in California to attend her grand-daughter Anabelle Poynter's High School graduation, and fell ill from a hemorrhage on June 2 while relaxing at her son David's home. Clarice was the youngest of eight children, born to George Joseph Heck and Grace Aileen (Allman) Heck. She attended Shawnee High School, graduating in 1953 and worked as a secretary at American Synthetic Rubber Company, and then Mutual of New York Insurance Company. She met her husband, William H. Poynter, at the Standard Oil Station his dad operated and they were married in May of 1961.

In 1969, Bill and Clarice settled in the house that become her family's home for the next 55 years. Her husband Bill, being a devout Catholic and Mom a Baptist, Sundays alternated between Mass and Baptist worship for the kids, until she entered the Catholic Church in the 1970s, and the whole family attended Epiphany and later Saint Margaret Mary Churches throughout the 1970s and 80s. After her husband’s passing, she attended Southeast Christian, as a born-again believer, before returning to her roots as a Baptist, joining Hurstbourne Baptist Church where she remained active up until her passing. She was active in the community and loved the arts - as a member of the St. Mathews Woman’s Club, member and president of the Middletown Woman Woman’s Club, volunteer at Center Stage Theater, and a House Manager at Actors Theater throughout the 1980s and 90s, also returning to work briefly in the 1980s as an office administrator. Clarice was an accomplished painter, with her works gracing several family member’s homes, took up show horse ride, ball room dance and tennis. She was an avid reader and loved to travel with her husband – including major tours of China and Europe (twice). She was a home maker, loved her family enormously, and was a caring friend to so, so many throughout the years. Clarice was a faithful and prayerful woman, and loved her friends and family deeply. The loves of her life were Christ Jesus, her husband, family, and her grandchildren. She prayed for her family and friends constantly, and always provided an ear or shoulder to lean on. Clarice was always and first - a Mom. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William H. Poynter and all her brothers and sisters.

Clarice is survived by two sons, Scott W. Poynter and David P. Poynter; 3 granddaughters, Anabelle Poynter, Elizabeth and Charlotte Poynter - with one grandson on the way; and her closest nephew and surrogate brother, James Cahoe; and nieces, Denise Carrell and Sharen Sorell; and too many other extended family and friends to list. She will be missed by all those who knew her until we meet again in the Life to Come.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243, and from 9am to 11am on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Hurstbourne Baptist Church, 8800 Shelbyville Road Louisville, KY 40222.  A celebration of Clarice' life will be at the church at 11am Saturday, followed by burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.
