Clarence "Oskie" Helmer Jr., 84, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023. Oskie was a UA Local 502 pipefitter for 60 years. He served honorably in United States Army and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and The Forty & Eight veterans organizations. Oskie was an avid I.U. sports fan who supported the Hoosiers no matter the sport. He won a blue ribbon at the Kentucky State Fair for his homemade wine and enjoyed gardening at his home. Above all, Oskie loved spending time with family & friends.
He was born on November 3, 1938 in Alexandria, Virginia to Clarence Helmer Sr. and Leora (Crunden) Trussell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Scott Helmer; and daughter, Debbie Nussle.
Oskie is survived by his loving wife, Judy Helmer; son, Mark (Roberta) Helmer; son, Wally (Nikki) Nussle; sister, Wezzie Jones; granddaughter, Keally (Chad) Douglass; granddaughter, Taylor (Albert) Espinosa; granddaughter, Crystal (Mike) Beson; granddaughter, Amber (Tim) Robinson; granddaughter, Chelsey (Dillon) Hester; grandson, Nolan (Angelina Sellitto) Helmer; grandson, Dylan (Carlin) Helmer; granddaughter, Brittany (Ian Wedderburn) Helmer; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Visitation will continue on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. His Funeral Service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
Oskie's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
