Churmia Kelsey Pennington Smith, a beloved soul who touched the hearts of all who knew her, passed away on February 6, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on June 15, 1930, her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Churmia was not just a loving and caring person; she was a storyteller, captivating her family with tales that brought to life both her adventures and the wisdom she gathered along the way. Her family delighted in listening to her stories, each one a glimpse into her vibrant spirit and rich experiences.
An adventurous traveler at heart, Churmia had an insatiable curiosity for the world around her. She found immense joy in exploring new places, always accompanied by her love for diving into yard sales, where she relished the thrill of uncovering hidden treasures and finding a good bargain. These interests highlighted her unique personality, revealing a woman who embraced life fully and sought joy in simple pleasures.
Churmia's warmth and kindness were like a comforting embrace to everyone she encountered. She had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel loved and appreciated. Her family will forever hold dear the moments spent in her presence, where laughter filled the air and warmth enveloped the room.
A visitation will be held in her honor on February 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Southwest Louisville. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate her life and share the stories that made Churmia so special. The funeral service will take place the following day, February 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM, also at Newcomer Funeral Home, where we will remember her spirit and cherish the legacy of love she leaves behind.
Churmia's journey on this earth may have concluded, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family and friends. As they reflect on the impact she made on their lives, they will be reminded that true treasure lies not in possessions, but in the love and memories we share.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Genevieve Dalton; husband, Eugene Pennington; second husband, Charles Smith; son, Bobby Pennington; grandson, TJ Pennington and her granddaughter, Amanda Pennington.
Churmia leaves behind to cherish her memories, her children, Kenneth Pennington, Betty Allen, Patty (Kenny) Hoagland and Karen Cox; grandchildren, Lisa Summer, Donna Pennington, Kelly McNear, Michael McNear, Kristie Dearing and Kim Carroll; numerous great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and adopted sister, Maxine Moss.
