Cherri Van Dyke, 61, passed away on the morning of September 15th, in her home in Louisville, Kentucky.
Cherri was born June 18, 1962, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Glenn Breitbach and Margie Breitbach Furry.
She attended Hempstead High School before getting her nursing degree at the Finley Hospital School of Nursing, both in her hometown of Dubuque. She worked as a nurse for most of her life, finishing her career at Home of the Innocents in Louisville, Kentucky, overseeing the care of medically complex and terminally ill children.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, and laying in the sun, was fascinated by butterflies, and rarely lived without the company of dogs. Later in life she became a dedicated and outspoken member of community-based addiction recovery programs, helping and being helped by countless friends and acquaintances to maintain a healthier way of life together.
She is survived by 8 brothers and sisters, Buck, Butch, Sandy, Michael, Deb, Dick, Pam, and Jerry; 3 children, Leah, Derek, and Brad; and 3 grandchildren, Alexis, Deaven, and Natalie.
She was preceded in death by her father Glenn, her mother Margie, and her brother Jeff.
Visitation will be 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243). A celebration of Cherri's life will follow at 4:00 PM.
