Charlotte Brewton Shaw, 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023.
She was born on February 23, 1935 in Goldonna, Louisiana to the late John Samuel and Mattie (Carraway) Brewton. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Terry Shaw; infant son, James Gregory; son-in-law, Charles Edwin Davies; and siblings Edna, Laura, Elinor, William David, Harold, Dorothy, John Samuel Jr., and Benjamin.
Charlotte graduated from Goldonna High School in 1953. She attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana for one year. Then, she married Terry Shaw who served in the U.S. Air Force. Terry and Charlotte raised three children – Donna, Gina, and Joe – while living in Texas, Virginia, and various places in Louisiana, finally settling in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Charlotte eventually studied at the Shreveport-Bossier Vocational Technical Center in the practical nursing program. She then served as a licensed practical nurse at Pilgrim Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She continued to serve at the Northwest Louisiana State School in Bossier City, Louisiana for nearly twenty years.
Charlotte has lived in Louisville since 1996. She attended church everywhere she ever lived, and she and Terry were active members of Pinecroft Baptist Church in Shreveport while the kids were growing up. In Louisville she has attended Cedar Creek Baptist Church for many years and Baxter Avenue Baptist Church since 2018.
Charlotte enjoyed reading and music and loved her family very much.
Charlotte is survived by her loving children, Donna Shaw Martin (George), Regina Shaw Hampshire (Doss), Joseph Edward Shaw (Barbara), five grandchildren, Paul Martin (Tracy), Sarah Martin Baltzley (Ryan), Rachel Martin Barnett (Sean), Amanda Shaw Pett (Travis), Megan Shaw (Kris Gable), five great-grandchildren, Kamille Martin, Kaleah Martin, Kayla Martin, Emily Baltzley, Flora Baltzley, sister-in-law, Jackie Brewton; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Charlotte's life will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Baxter Avenue Church (522 Baxter Ave, Louisville, KY 40204).
