Charlotte R. (Simpkins) Heishman, 71, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011 after nearly a 14 year fight against cancer. She was a native of West Virginia and a graduate of Huntington area schools and Marshall University.
She is survived by her daughter, Michele Parks (Mike) of Clarksville, IN, sons, Dr. Matthew Heishman and Dr. A.J. Matthews both of Lexington, KY; sister, Carolyn Miller (Hale) of Lavalette, WV; granddaughter, Allison Parks; her best friend, Sharon Head of New Albany, who was also her dedicated caregiver and helper; and her three beloved puppies, Paco, PaddyCakes, and Sam.
Cremation was chosen following Charlotte's wishes. A celebration of her life will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and a Memorial Service immediately following visitation at 7 PM with Pastor Robyn Kistemaker conducting.
Charlotte and her family wish to give thanks to all those who cared for her over the years, especially the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff at Floyd Memorial Cancer Care Center of Indiana, Floyd Memorial Hospital, and Autumn Woods Health Campus who cared for her during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlotte's memory may be made to the Floyd Memorial Cancer Center of Indiana Relay for Life Team "Angels of Hope" or the American Cancer Society.
