Keenan
Charlotte May age 95, died peacefully on April 10, 2021 at her home in Brooks, Kentucky. Born in Detroit on May 4, 1925 just minutes behind her twin brother, Charles K. King. As a 1942 graduate of Denby High School, she began working in the banking industry. She was career minded and worked most of her adult life in banking and accounting except while she was raising her young family. She met Thomas J. Keenan on a blind date. The two were married on April 24, 1954 and were happily married until Thomas's passing in 2010. The newlyweds moved to Calexico, CA while Thomas was working for the United States Border Patrol. Thomas's career with the INS service took them to Staten Island, NY and returned them to the Detroit area where they eventually settled in St. Clair Shores in 1964. Charlotte loved the Shores and was extremely involved in her church, St. Isaac Jogues and many of the SIJ and SCS recreational leagues and clubs including girl's softball, CYO Sports, Bruce Post and SIJ Bingos, the SCS Lakers Swim Club and many more. She believed in the value of Catholic education and was extremely involved in her children's education and with the Notre Dame High School Booster Club as well as various parent support organizations at Bishop Gallagher High School. She lived in the Shores until 2015 when she moved to Kentucky to live with her daughter, Kristine and son-in-law, Glenn. Charlotte is preceded in death by her father, Charles F. King, her mother, Mary H. (Slappick) King, her twin brother, Charles K. King, her sister Louise (King) Carson. She is survived by her son, Thomas J. Keenan Jr. (Pamela) of Boerne, TX, her daughter Mary M. Devore (Douglas) of Anchorage, AK and her daughter Kristine A. Nicolas (Glenn) of Brooks, KY. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Keenan, Hannah, Trey, Katy and Caelan and many nieces and nephews and life-long neighbors and friends. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church (21100 Madison St, St. Clair Shores, MI) on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately after the Mass at Encore Banquet Center (21801 E. Nine Mile Road, St. Clair Shores, MI). Her interment will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 11:00 am at Great Lakes National Cemetery, in Holly, MI.
