Charlie Smith, born on November 21, 1947, Palatka, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 29 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Charlie leaves behind a legacy of love dedication.
For over 30 years, Charlie worked diligently at Brown Sprinkler Corporation, where his strong work ethic and commitment evident to all who knew him. Charlie possessed a wide range of skills, embodying the essence of a jack of all trades. He embraced life with enthusiasm and was deeply passionate about the outdoors—enjoying fishing, boating, and camping. One of his fondest memories includes picking vanilla plants in Florida, a cherished moment demonstrating his delight in nature.
Charlie's family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Stacie Turner Smith, with whom he built a wonderful life filled with love and mutual respect. His sons, Charles Smith (Tammie), David Smith (Dana), Anthony Smith (Angelique), and daughter Amanda Smith, continue to carry forward the values he instilled in them. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and delighted in the company of his seven great-grandchildren. He also cherished his sister, Judy Hickox (Jackie), who stood by him throughout his life, along with his loyal companion, Sandy Lynn Smith. He is also survived by his best friend, Ivan Merrill.
Charlie's life was not without its challenges, as he faced the heart-wrenching loss of his daughter, Jessica Smith, and siblings Rita Hurst, Floyd Smith, Gary Smith, and Bert Smith. Yet, he remained a steadfast source of strength for his family, always emphasizing the importance of love and unity.
A visitation in honor of Charlie will be held on November 10, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243. Following the visitation, a memorial service will commence at 4:00 PM.
Charlie's memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he so richly deserved.
