Charlie Curtis Johnson Jr, born August 21,1945 in Savannah, Georgia died on September 30, 2021, in Louisville, Kentucky at the age of 76.
Charlie grew up in Albany, Georgia enjoying hunting, fishing, and horses and graduated from Albany High School in 1963. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia and then graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from University of Georgia.
He credits the Co-Op program with Lilliston Corporation in financially aiding his degree pursuits. Charlie married Mary Ann Davis on June 17, 1967. He loved golf, Corvettes, and his Pekingese dogs. Charlie's military career began with Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, receiving his Commission as Ensign in May 1969. He served as Communications Officer and Radar Navigator aboard the USS Tidewater (AD-31) in Norfolk, Virginia from September 1969 until the ship was decommissioned in February 1971. While aboard Charlie was promoted to Lt (jg) and Received Honorable Discharge in 1971.
After the Navy, Charlie returned to Lilliston Corporation and spent the remainder of his professional life as an Engineer in the agricultural machinery business working for Lilliston Corporation (Albany, Georgia), Athens Plow Division of Austin Products (Athens, Tennessee and Dallas, Texas), and Bush Hog LLC (Selma, Alabama). Charlie rose to the position of Vice President (Engineering) before retiring in 2006 and relocating in 2007 to Louisville, Kentucky to be with his son, Mark and family.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, his son Mark (Amy), and grandchildren (Abigail, Cole). He is preceded in death by his parents Charlie Curtis Johnson, Sr and Ada Wells Johnson.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 pm on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Newcomer Cremation, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in Charlie's memory be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
