Charletta Alene Leslie was born April 15, 1953, along with her wombmate Pauletta "Boss'" Leslie. The two were best friends and were inseparable. Charletta, affectionately called 'Ace', was a meek and humble soul with a heart of gold and a desire to serve others. Her sweet and loving spirit was infectious. There wasn't a person who crossed her path that didn't feel her warmth. Whether it be for a glass of her famous ice water, a listening ear, or to share a few laughs. "Ace's porch" was a gathering place among her family, friends, and loved ones.
Charletta received her salvation at an early age as a member of St. Elizabeth UPB. Church, under the leadership of Elder Arnell A. Mitchell. She later rededicated her life to Christ and was a faithful member at Bates Memorial Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. F. Bruce Williams. There she became a student of the word and a woman of prayer. She loved her Pastor, church family, and attending her Sunday school classes and trips. She also sang in the women's day choirs and was very passionate about stewardship.
She attended Lyman T Johnson and later got her G.E.D. She attended JCC where she later got an apprenticeship as a welder. Charletta spent most of her years working in the service industry. Her desire to serve started with her being a master butcher at the Leslie family grocery store "Cash and Save". Because of her love for children, she later became a childcare provider. She always wanted to lend a helping hand and often provided her services free of charge.
In her early years, Ace was a local softball star in the California area. She played for the neighborhood team "The California Park Softball team." She was very nifty and crafty. She found neat and creative ways to fix and repair almost anything that needed fixing. As a joke among family, her craftiness was often referred to as "n-rigged"!!!! Ace was extremely youthful and unique, a trendsetter in her own right. She wasn't afraid to express herself and often made bold choices with different styles and colors of her hair. You could be sure to always see Ace smiling, laughing, singing, or dancing and BOY COULD SHE DANCE!
She was preceded in glory by her mother, Mattie Lee Lockhart and brothers, Phillip Leslie-Holloway, and William "Cootie" Leslie-Holloway.
