Charles E. (Woody) Woodruff, Sr., 86, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, died peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2018. Charlie was a Korean War veteran, serving in the 101st Airborne from July 3, 1951, to July 3, 1953. He was a recent recipient of the Honor Flight in October 2017. Charlie was a past master of Kilwining Lodge 506 for 55 years. He worked for K&I Railroad as an Electrician and then went on to retire from Sears in 1992. He loved to travel. Charlie never met a stranger and always had a joke ready to tell someone.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Alice Mae (Bowling) Woodruff; son, Charles "Eddie" Woodruff and his wife, Deanna, of New Albany; son, Richard Woodruff of New Albany; daughter, Kathryn "Kathy" Shirley and her husband, Dale, of Floyds Knobs; brother, Kenneth Woodruff, and his wife, Carol, of Louisville; grandchildren, Brian, Chris, Ally and Shelby; great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his mother, Anna Pearl (Hood) Woodruff; and father, James Earl Woodruff.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charlie's name can be made to Bluegrass Honor Flight or Pulmonary Fibrosis Association.
