Charles William Watkins Sr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charles William Watkins Sr., age 89, of Louisville, Kentucky, who left us on November 16, 2024.

Charlie was born on September 20, 1935, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Russell and Bonnie (Brown) Watkins. He was preceded in death by his loving parents and twelve cherished siblings.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Sandra "Sandy" Watkins, and their beloved children: Debbie (Dale) Dillingham, Charles W. (Nathen) Watkins, Jr., and Jimmy (Darrin) Watkins. His legacy also lives on through his treasured grandchildren—Brittany (Jeffrey) Morriston, Dustin Dillingham, Brandon Watkins, and Tori Watkins—and his great-granddaughter, Magnolia Morriston. Charlie is further survived by his sisters, Clara Noe and Lou Ella Watkins, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will deeply miss him.

A proud veteran, Charlie honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He spent over 20 years as a dedicated over-the-road trucker, ultimately retiring from Martin Brower. Charlie was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to his family. He cherished the simple joys in life, finding happiness in the well-being of his loved ones, enjoying a quiet moment as he smoked his pipe, and delighting in feeding the squirrels that visited his yard. His spirit touched many.  He was also proud to be a part of the Kentucky Colonels.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 21st, and again from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, November 22nd, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel (10304 Dixie Hwy). A Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 PM on Friday, followed by a burial at Kentucky Veteran Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
