Charles W. Hollen, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2013. He was a WWII Navy veteran and retired from the Naval Ordinance in Louisville. Charlie was an avid golfer and loved to travel. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the VFW Post 1693 Hobart Beach in New Albany.
Charlie was born on March 28, 1925 in Jeffersonville, Indiana to the late Harry and Dovie (Hughes) Hollen. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Knofel Hollen and son-in-law, William "Bud" Gilezan.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary V. (Hurrle) Hollen; children, Ginny Gilezan (Randy Farnsley), Ken Hollen (Paula), Terry Hollen; sister-in-law, Beverly Hollen; grandchildren, Becky Barnett (Keith), Chad Gilezan, Melissa Delano, Stacey Hollen; and great-grandchildren, Kayla and Korey Barnett.
Visitation will be from 3 PM to 8 PM Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church (129 West Daisy Lane, New Albany) with cremation to follow. Burial and military honors will take place at a later date in the New Albany National Cemetery.
