Charles Allison Stoner, affectionately known to his family as "Buddy Roe" passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, at 74. He was born on February 20, 1948, in Shelbyville, Kentucky, to the late Edward and Mahalia Pauline (Tillie) Stoner. He is also preceded in death by brothers Loyal Stoner, Phillip Lee Stoner, and Lawrence Stoner.
At a young age, he professed his faith in Christ at New Greater First Baptist Church and walked with God until his final transition. He graduated from the Lincoln Institute, and while there, he was involved in multiple clubs, and played basketball alongside his brothers and friends. Upon high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in combat during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from the Army and returned to his family safely.
He loved his God-given family and his church family just alike. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Jeffersontown for over 40 years, he, with much dedication, served on the Usher Board and the Finance Committee for decades. UofL Basketball was his other love. Although he was an avid UofL sports fan, nothing could match his excitement for Cardinals Basketball! He retired from Phillip Morris after 30+ years and continued to live a vibrant life. He loved working out, was enthusiastic about karate, and enjoyed watching his classic Western movies, bowling, riding his motorcycle, and listening to music. But most of all, he loved his family, and his grandkids loved their Pawpaw.
Mr. Stoner is survived by his wife, Lucille Brown-Stoner; son, Joshua Charles Stoner; daughter, Kristin Allisyn Barnes; grandchildren, Avery Barnes and Langston Allison Barnes; son-in-Law, Milan Barnes; siblings, Edward F. Stoner, Anna F. May (William), Morris Stoner, Jr. (Brenda), Robert A Stoner, Brenda K. Stoner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
