Charles F. Short Sr., 85, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022. Charles was a loving and devoted father and Papaw. He was a member of Peace Chapel General Baptist Church and served as a deacon. Charles was a diesel mechanic by trade and a member of Derby City Mustang Club, Mustang Friends Kentucky Indiana Car Club and Chicken Eaters Car Club. Charles was a proud veteran of the US Army and serviced from 1954-1975. He completed two tours in Viet Nam and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 2. He was a member of the Kentucky Colonels and a lifetime member of VFW Post 02921. Charles will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
He was born on November 20, 1936 in Three Point, Kentucky to Dave and Lora (Stewart) Short. He is preceded in death by his father, Dave Short; mother, Lora Short; and wife, Barbara Short.
Charles is survived by his loving family, children, Charles F. (Traci) Short, Jr., Michael Short, Sharon Short Weber, Karen (Terry) Gibson; loving companion, Kathy Childress; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Ronald (Diane) Short, Billie Bailey, and Patsy Harmon; as well as a host of extended family members and friends to cherish his loving memory forever.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions-Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. A Celebration of his life will be on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions-Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial to follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Kentucky.
