Charles Leonard "Sonny" Sampson

Charles Leonard "Sonny" Sampson, 80, of Elizabeth, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at his home. He was a member of Emmaus Road Church and had been involved with Freed From Within, having served as an original board member. Sonny loved being involved in REC Ministries and had also served as a lay leader for the United Methodist Church.

He was born on March 7, 1942, in New Albany, Indiana, to William Sampson and Loranda (Smith) Ferren. Sonny is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Joyce Sampson; children, Cheryl Royalty (Frank), Loranda Chancey, Michael Sampson (Michelle), John Sampson (Tonia), Jesse Sampson (Stephanie), Myra Walton (Jason), Charles Sampson (Gabby), and Coy Sampson (Brandi); 24 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Emmaus Road Church (515 Potters Lane, Clarksville, IN 47129) and on Saturday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church with burial to follow at Bethesda Cemetery in Elizabeth.
