Charles Frederick Rhoads, age 81 of Prospect, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
He was born on a farm on July 29, 1941 in West Union, Illinois to the late Thurman A. and Margret S. Rhoads. Charles had an older brother David A. who died as a result of a tractor accident at the age of twelve. He also had a younger sister, Marcia Ellen, who lived on a farm near Altamont, Illinois, with her husband, John Finfrock, until she passed away on August 22, 2011.
Charles graduated from Marshall High School in 1959, from Indiana State University with a BS degree in Industrial Education in 1963, and with an MS degree in Industrial Arts from Eastern Illinois University in 1966. He also attended Oklahoma State University for two years in Stillwater, OK in Higher Education.
He taught as an associate professor focusing on auto-mechanics, solar energy and electronics at the University of Wisconsin Stout in Menomonie, WI, where he was highly respected by his students. He and his family lived there for 18 years. They then moved to Russellville, Kentucky, where he worked as an industrial electrician for approximately 15 years. His hobby was building and flying experimental airplanes. He really enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow pilots who were working on their planes. His favorite family summer vacation spot was at Oshkosh, Wisconsin visiting the Oshkosh Experimental Air Show. His family will certainly miss his willingness to help with all sorts of projects. He would enjoy selflessly serving others and his family. He was a member and deacon of Simpsonville Baptist Church in Simpsonville, KY. In 2010, he enjoyed a mission trip to Kenya. He and his wife enjoyed spending 2 to 3 months each year in Florida in their later years while continuously fixing their camper. His other hobby was talking on the ham radio.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn L. Rhoads, whom he married on July 7, 1963. He is also survived by three sons, Steven Charles Rhoads (Mary), Christopher Edward Rhoads (Eve) and Dr. David Philip Rhoads (Dr. Shiela).
